When I was younger I was chubby and I donned  a pot belly. Some people liked it that way– in my times these two were status symbols. As a medical doctor I knew this had to change as  the two attributes inevitably produced a conflict in my mind-a doctor must preach and demonstrate healthy living!  So I set my bar. Lose weight, shade off my pot belly and stay fit. Only then would my shape and figure be in harmony with my identity. So every morning I ‘suit up’ and ‘show up’– flexing my body parts in ‘funny’ shapes and figures. It has been a constant struggle for me to ‘keep them off’-the weight and the belly I mean. It is something that I have to constantly keep an eye on-what I am eating and how I’m moving and all those things. My fitness adviser swears that at some point I’m going to enjoy working out and  look forward to it because of the high I get. I guess I’m not there yet because I still have to force myself to do it!

performance improvement I still have to make time in the day for it; I still have to convince myself that it is better for me than not. It is not always easy , but I do find that it is easier when I am consistent, scheduled and doing the kind of things that my body responds to positively-like a routine. Life is tough my friend, but those who are tough at themselves get it a little easier next time!  You have to ‘suit up’ and ‘show up’.  So when I stop doing what I am supposed to be doing, when I do not schedule it-get busy and schedule over it or just never get around it –then I do not show up. I do not work out the way I should. It occurs to me that raising the bar in your job performance goes much the same way.

You will be required to overcome pitfalls, set performance challenges and stretch yourself to the next level in your career ladder. In order to do this you will be required to formulate smart performance improvement intentions and develop effective performance improvement plans

We have to ‘suit up’, we have to  work on the bar we set and we have to do the correct activities. We have to do what the trainer, supervisor, Team leader or even the more focused colleague prescribes for us. It is not always fun each and everyday but when we put our time in, when we have consistent activity then we will be guaranteed of sustaining the bar and hence the career

I suit up and ‘show’ up because I see some results physically-I feel healthier, have better energy and I enjoy an improved quality of life. It takes character to get out of bed, commitment to move into action, and discipline to follow through.   Excelling at your job or work is much the same as keeping physically fit. It is a personal responsibility and hence you must identify your individual core qualities and use them to improve your own performance. You will be required to over come pitfalls, set performance challenges and stretch yourself to the next level in your career ladder. In order to do this you will be required to formulate smart performance improvement intentions and develop effective performance improvement plans

To achieve high career goals you must understand you will have to outpace your fellow employees and competitors by going the extra mile and have your tasks completed and targets met all the time. Like in fitness you must ‘suit up’ and ‘show up’ EE
